The expression 7x plus 11 is the sum of 7x and 11. In this case, the 7x and 11 connected by the addition symbol are called terms. Also, in the tewm 7x, the number 7 multiplied to the letter is called a coefficient of x.

Terms where the letter part are the same are called similar terms. Similar terms can be combined into a sinble term. In multiplication of expressions with letters and numbers, we can multiply the coefficients and numbers by changing the order of the mutiplication. In the calculation of the following expression, we use the distributive law and remove the parentheses and calculate similar terms together.

8(x+3)-4(5x-2)

=8x+24-20x+8

=-12x+32
